The robber walked into the Bank of America branch at 2680 N. Tustin St. about 2:45 p.m. and asked an employee about opening an account, Orange police Sgt. Dan Adams said.

The robber showed the employee a black folder that looked like a day planner and contained what appeared to be a bomb, Adams said.

The device had two or more cylinders in it that looked like dynamite or flares, wires and something that appeared to be a battery, Adams said.

The robber demanded cash and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, Adams said. The device, which was left behind, did not explode and it was uncertain whether it could, Adams said.
