Now, the former California governor will face a Republican challenger with a sizeable war chest and a lot of determination.

Brown said Tuesday night that his tenure as governor of the state from 1975 to 1983 makes him the more qualified candidate in November over probable Republican challenger Meg Whitman.

"I've been there … I have the experience …. I think I can fix this," Brown said in an interview on Fox television.

"l never thought I'd be running again," said Brown. But the current California attorney general said that as he has seen the "mess" in the state government, he felt compelled to run again.
