"The Hangover 2" won't be filmed in Thailand

Despite widespread reports that The Hangover 2 will take place in Thailand, director Todd Phillips has clarified that the sequel won't be shot in the Southeast Asian country.

Phillips told Las Vegas Sun at 2010 ShoWest that the script for the film is 75 percent completed. Yet, he said he was not sure when asked where the shooting would take place. He said the sequel might be filmed in Miami.

"It's been talked about, but that's not yet definite," he replied.

The director rebutted rumours that he would bring the cast and crew to Thailand or Mexico for the production, "I don't know," he told Collider when asked whether the movie would be set in the Asian country. "There's a lot of rumors. There was rumor also that it was going to Mexico or something and neither are true," he added.

Phillips said that everyone is aiming to start shooting in the beginning of November. "November the 1st," he said. "That's what we're trying, but you know a lot of it has to do with Ed Helms' 'The Office' schedule and Bradley Cooper's other movies. Right now our goal is to start shooting November 1st."

The rumour started with a quote from Zach Galifianakis, star of The Hangover, from July of 2009:

"Well, ‘The Hangover 2′ I think we’re going to Thailand. The problem with ‘Hangover 2′ is that we have to up what we did which is very difficult. So we get, I think, kind of kidnapped…we do end up in an exotic location. That’s all I know…."

When one of the stars of the movie starts claiming a Thailand setting, it’s a bit hard to shrug it off as “just another rumor.”
