Utah Drug Card Program Launching

Utah residents will have access to a new statewide prescription assistance program starting tomorrow. The Utah Drug Card is a free discount prescription drug card program that will offer residents savings of up to 75% on prescription drugs at retail pharmacies.

All Utah residents are eligible to participate in this program by simply printing a card on the program's website www.utahdrugcard.com. Residents can also obtain cards at various health centers, clinics, businesses, and other card distribution sites that are being set up across the state.

The Utah Drug Card was launched to help the uninsured and underinsured citizens of Utah afford their prescription medications. However, the program can also be used by people who have health insurance coverage with no prescription benefits, which is common in many health savings accounts (HSA) and high deductible health plans. Additionally, people who have prescription coverage can use this program to get a discount on non-formulary or non-covered drugs.

This statewide initiative is receiving support from organizations such as the Salt Lake Chamber, Utah Hospital and Health Systems Association, and Utah Non-Profits Association. The Utah Drug Card provides Utah residents with a simple solution to the confusing maze of discount prescription programs that have appeared in recent years. Many of these programs only cover certain drugs, charge fees, and some have membership restrictions such as age and income requirements.
