A total of 25 schools in California made the list of 2009 No Child Left Behind -- Blue Ribbon Schools.

"I am so proud that these 25 schools are receiving this prestigious national honor," said Jack O'Connell, state superintendent of public instruction. "In spite of these extraordinarily challenging times of budget cuts, staff layoffs and turmoil in our economy that are affecting our schools, the students at these schools show that if you keept on trying, you will succeed.

(...) Eight Los Angeles County elementary schools made the list: Clifford Street, Danube Avenue, Delevan Drive, Hamlin Street, 156th Street, Solano Avenue, Hamilton (Pasadena) and San Jose-Edison Academy (West Covina).

In Orange County, John Murdy Elementary in Garden Grove and Middle College High in Santa Ana were also honored.
