'Glitch' in LA mayor home irrigation wasted water

Villaraigosa told reporters about the glitch at a City Hall press conference Wednesday announcing that Los Angeles residents had reduced water usage in July by 17 percent compared to the same month last year.

He said an error in the system when it was installed two years ago caused sprinklers to run on nights other than Mondays or Thursdays.

The city imposed mandatory water conservation June 1 restricting sprinkler use weekly to those two days.
