Sixty commercial wineries from 16 states competed Tuesday in the first International Cold Climate Wine Competition.
More than 300 entries were judged. Top honors were given to wines from Vermont, Nebraska and Minnesota.
Organizers say they hope the competition will show grapes developed to survive in frosty northern climates can make enjoyable wines.
The winners don't get cash, but they do get bragging rights they can use in their marketing.
The winning bottles will be displayed at the Minnesota State Fair, which runs Thursday through Labor Day.
