Cuomo’s lead over the governor has increased since a June 24 poll showed Cuomo ahead, 57 percent to 20 percent, in a survey of the state’s registered Democratic voters, the poll reported.

A total of 59 percent of all voters were dissatisfied with Paterson’s job performance. In the June 24 survey, Paterson had 61 percent negative rating, within the poll’s 2.5 percentage point margin of error and making the difference statistically insignificant. Cuomo received a 74 percent approval rating.

“It’s sure getting hard to stay even-handed about Governor David Paterson vs. Attorney General Andrew Cuomo,” said Maurice Carroll, director of the Hamden, Connecticut-based Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. “The question is: How one-sided can it get?”

Former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, a Republican, would lead Paterson by a 53 percent to 33 percent margin were the 2010 general election held today, the poll found. Cuomo would beat Giuliani, 48 percent to 39 percent.
