Clinton said U.S. President Barack Obama is looking forward to establishing a new era of cooperation between the two nations.

Clinton, who is on a seven-nation tour of Africa, was also expected to press Mr. Zuma for help in Zimbabwe.

On Friday, Clinton said South Africa can play a key role in encouraging Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe to follow through on this year's power-sharing agreement with Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai.

(...) Clinton addressed a group of business leaders in Johannesburg Friday, saying that, as the continent's largest economy, South Africa can take a lead role in driving up economies throughout Africa.

Earlier Friday, the secretary of state met with former jailed anti-apartheid activist turned president Nelson Mandela, and said his life was an inspiration to many.
