In a tougher economy many business owners and entrepreneurs have fewer funds to market their business. Fewer marketing dollars means fewer customers. Vee and Miller are telling their clients to consider social media as a quick and inexpensive way to strengthen relationships with existing customers, attract new customers, and sell their products or services.
"Social media is the ultimate word-of-mouth marketing machine and we all know that's the best form of advertising. . .the best part is it's free," says Miller.
Vee continues, "Most business owners have heard of social media and maybe have tested the water a bit. But their mistake is that they are either too gun-shy to promote themselves, wasting a ton of time or they immediately promote themselves too overtly and piss people off."
Vee and Miller, authors of Gravitational Marketing: The Science of Attracting Customers (Wiley), consult with business owners and entrepreneurs worldwide about the process of attracting customers and selling in a natural way rather than the old-school approach that relies on cold-calling and annoying people.
"Marketing, whether it be Facebook, Twitter, YouTube or in traditional media is about building a relationship with a prospect by delivering value first before you ask them to buy," explains Vee "It's about being a helper not a huckster."
