Baca seeks more staffing for mentally ill inmates |

Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca wants to hire more staff members who are trained to deal with the mentally ill in county jails.

City News Service says Baca told county supervisors Tuesday he wants to hire six deputies with specialized training to deal with the mentally ill, along with six psychiatric social workers.
Baca estimated it would cost about $1.3 million annually for the additional hires.
The FBI is investigating allegations of violence, intimidation and excessive force by deputies in the county jails.
