The city of Los Angeles has been chosen as the host of the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games.

At a press conference announcing the decision Wednesday, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa welcomed the event, saying the city is proud to host the games' talented athletes.
More than 7,000 Special Olympics athletes from 170 nations will compete in 21 sports for the event, which is held every two years.
