Time Warner Cable Launches Wi-Fi in LA

Time Warner Cable had a pretty rocky time when they first acquired Adelphia's cable and broadband networks in the region. Several years later the company has managed to improve service for most of those customers, and now according to the Los Angeles Times, intends on offering many customers access to a free Wi-Fi network.

The move follows on the heels of Cablevision, who on the east coast spent a few extra million to provide NYC metro-area customers with free Wi-Fi along commute routes and in parks. Not-particularly-creatively dubbed TWC Wi-Fi, the $15 million network will provide users service in both Los Angeles and Orange counties, though initially over a relatively small forty mile zone in Southern California. Time Warner Cable users get service for free, but non-customers can access the service for $2.95 for one hour, $6.95 for a day; $19.95 for a week or $49.95 for a monthly plan.
