AEG reveals list of possible NFL teams to move to Los Angeles

A somewhat official list of possible NFL teams that may move to Los Angeles has been revealed by the head of AEG, the company developing Farmers Field, the proposed new downtown stadium.

Tim Leiweke, president of AEG, told a Southern California newspaper that he has already had discussions with the San Diego Chargers, the Oakland Raiders, the St. Louis Rams, the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Minnesota Vikings.

(...) Leiweke also said AEG's owner, Phillip Anshutz (AEG stands for Anshutz Entertainment Group) was willing to acquire a majority share in an NFL team and would pay for any team to get out of a current lease. Many NFL teams are locked into long-term leases with the stadium in which they play. Those leases sometimes carry a clause specifying an amount the team can pay (sometimes in the hundreds of millions of dollars) to get out the lease, and move out of the city. While I think that will be important, the bigger issue is the development of new stadiums. If teams like the Raiders, the Vikings or the Chargers can't get their cities to build (and partially publicly finance) new state-of-the-art facilities, the owners, who are running a business, will need to find greener pastures.
