Kobe Bryant tries "innovative procedure" to strengthen knee

The right knee of Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant has been hurting him. Last year, he missed "an overwhelming majority of the Lakers' practices this past season and saw his scoring, shooting percentage and minutes decrease," according to the Los Angeles Times.

Bryant "has undergone three knee procedures since 2003, including surgery last July to remove unspecified loose bodies," the Times reports. And this offseason, he has tried an unconventional fourth.

Four sources who wanted to remain anonymous tell the Times that Bryant was in Germany about a month ago to try "an innovative procedure" to strengthen the knee. "The treatment is a derivation of platelet-rich plasma therapy," the Times reports. "PRP procedures are less invasive than many surgeries involving the knee and are viewed as either an emerging solution to knee problems or a financial gamble on unproven science."
