New Bell City Council to be sworn in

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has officially approved the results of Bell's March 8 city election that ushered in an all-new City Council.

The action Tuesday means that the five newly elected council members can be sworn in within the next two days.

Normally the Bell City Council would certify the election results, but a corruption scandal left it unable to function. An emergency law signed by Gov. Jerry Brown last month gave county supervisors the power to approve the results.

Four former council members have been arrested on various corruption charges. The fifth former council member who was not arrested lost his bid for re-election.
