LA City Council Approves Downtown L.A. Streetcar System

Nearly 60 years after the city derailed it's popular streetcar program, the one-time fixture of L.A. streets could be returning soon. L.A. City Council unanimously approved $8.5 million Wednesday to fund the Downtown L.A. Streetcar.

The effort is championed by City Councilmember José Huizar as a public-private venture that will create thousands of jobs and attract millions in city revenue.

The electricity-driven trolley will run on fixed rails and move with the flow of traffic.

It will run 7-days a week for 18-hours a day and serve areas including Bunker Hill, the Historic Core and L.A. LIVE and the convention center.
