Michael Joseph DeSilva, 65, of Newport Beach, was booked at the city  jail, and Orange County Animal Control officers took the parrot. Someone tipped off police about 4:15 p.m. Saturday, reporting a  suspicious man near Main Street and Pacific Coast Highway.

"They thought it was odd that somebody was trying to get children to  play with his parrot," Huntington Beach police Lt. Russell Reinhart said.

Police questioned the man and learned he was a registered sex offender,  Reinhart said. They called his probation officer and, based on his activity,  decided to book him for violating his probation.
